Yes!” That’s how Dr. Christoph Endrös, Chairman of the Board at ODU, put it in his introduction to the company’s hot-off-the-press anniversary brochure.

A patent as the cornerstone of success

For three-quarters of a century now, company founder Otto Dunkel’s ingenuity and enthusiasm for technology have been bearing the rich fruit of success. Dunkel lay the foundation for ODU’s rise with his patented springwire contact. Over the past seven decades, the business he founded in 1942 in his small research lab in Berlin has grown into a global player in the field of connector systems. Today it counts 1,800 employees and an annual turnover of 165 million euros. ODU has secured global leadership in the areas of medical technology, test and measurement as well as communication technology for the harshest of environmental conditions.

The ODU SPRINGTAC© is like a symbol connecting ODU’s past, present and future. It serves as a reminder of the innovative spirit, creativity, entrepreneurial risk-taking, team spirit and technical perfection which have defined and driven ODU from its earliest days. The ODU SPRINGTAC© is the successor of the first springwire contact and remains a bestseller in the range of sought-after new inventions and connector families.

ODU-MAC® – a model of success

The development of the ODU-MAC® rectangular connector in 1986 proved similarly successful. This system has been continuously perfected right up to our most recent model range, the ODU-MAC© Silver-, White- and Blue-Lines.

Today, ODU offers a broad spectrum of sector- and customer-specific solutions with some 90,000 products. The trend towards ever smaller and more sophisticated components enabling high data transmission rates is also bolstering ODU’s success.

For this Bavarian family business, the close, trust-based and primarily long-term relationships it maintains with its customers are essential to its success. “Developing customer- and application-specific products is our specialty and one of the most important pillars of our growth,” explain Managing Directors Dr. Joachim Belz and Dr.-Ing.
